What I have learned in my *almost* 30 years on this planet is that life with colorful mermaid hair is exactly 76% more more fun than life with normcore hair. Listen you guys - if you've ever wanted to dye your hair PLEASE DO IT. Just, you know, don't buy one of those at-home pastel dye kits because your hair will definitely not turn smokey grey-blue or icy pink from something that cost $8.99 and can be bought at your local CVS. Typically, if you have dark brown hair like me, you're going to have to lift your color to achieve a vibrant hue. I'm not afraid of a little bleach, but turns out since I've been growing out highlights for like five years, I didn't have to lighten my hair at all. All of this lush purple came from a quick custom color mixing and twenty minutes of letting it seep into my strands. That's it! It's not a scary process, and in the hands of a professional your hair will be safe. A professional, not your friend/cousin/little sister, a box of bleach, and a jar of Manic Panic.
Here's a list of reasons to dye your hair:
1. You will look like a mermaid - mermaids are notorious for having great hair
2. Colorful hair gives you even more of an excuse to not wear make-up
3. If you're having a bad day, your actually not because your hair is still an awesome color and you look v cool
4. When you're 80, you'll get to look back and be like - I used to have mermaid hair and I looked fly af
5. Every guy/girl that has ghosted you will come crawling out of the woodwork because you look so fly, and you can hit them with a "new hair, who dis?"
If you've been following this blog for a while, you know I used to have blue hair. I loved my blue hair - it was so ethereal. Until it faded down to a gnarly shade of Frankenstein"s Monster green, and then it wasn't at all. So purple it was - also, I've been wanting to do purple as a tribute to Prince since he passed earlier this year. That man was magic to me. I'm kind of excited to see what this color will fade to. Knowing my hair though, probably green again somehow. Let me know what color you've had or are going to try!
There's something I've really been on myself about in the past year and that is to improve my skincare regime. And by improve, I mean actually start one for myself. I've been pretty spoiled by having good genetics that have given me great skin my whole life but, like in most situation, being spoiled has led to me being lazy. Now that I'm coming up on 30, I can hear my mom saying, "Wash your face or you'll get wrinkles!" more clearly than ever. No wrinkles yet, thankfully, but it's never too early to start caring for my skin - especially as someone who lives in a huge city with high levels of pollution, that travels a lot (airplane air is murder on your face), and spends a lot of time shooting outside with some kind of make-up on. Being a boho girl, I've always been a big fan of all things natural and I SWEAR by the benefits of Resveratrol. I'm also a big fan of red wine, which is a good source of resveratrol and is one of the things that, I believe, makes a glass of red wine a day good for you. I've also heard that a glass of red wine before bed can help you lose weight, I'm not sure if that's true, but I'm not opposed to doing the research!
This is why I was so excited to try Vine Vera - it's resveratrol-based skincare. That means that these Antioxidant-rich products are not only super luxurious - literally all of the creams feel AMAZING -but also can deliver on the promises made to improve the sensitive and delicate skin of our faces and necks with their blend of carefully selected ingredients. "Never forget the neck!" - my mom, again.
Like my wine, I wanted to try something rich and vibrant so I went with the Malbec DNA Collection. Malbecs have such a lush and sumptuous taste and look, with the dark purple hue, I thought it would be perfect for my combination skin. I honestly don't even know which product I loved the most, they all work together in a perfect symbiotic relationship and complement each other. If I had to pick one, it would be the Midnight Cream because it's so light and gentle - it feels amazing on my face right before bed and I love how soft my face feels when I wake up. There's also the coolest melting pre-mask, something you'll have to try for yourself to see how it melts down to oil on your skin and then turns into a deep-cleaning foam to prep your face for those super fun looking masks below.
Disco Nap - a short nap, usually 20 minutes to an hour long that you take to get recharged before going out, usually to a bar or club.
"I had 2 Hand Grenades and a Purple Drank from Lafitte's this afternoon, I will literally die if I don't take a disco nap before we hit Pat O's"- something at least one person has slurred while in New Orleans.
Speaking of my beloved NOLA, I can't think of a better place to have packed up and brought along my new Disco Nap pillow from Miss With-it! I was disco napping through airports, on planes, and finally at The Lafayette Hotel New Orleans (my unproblematic fave, but more on that later) to prepare for the week ahead of me, during which I gained at least 10 lbs from macarons, champagne, and beignets alone.
Miss With-it! is just the cheekiest and most darling L.A.-based boutique with a range of creative designs and sassy sayings splashed across decor pillows and pretty pouches in pink, black, and white (what other colors do you even need?). Some of my favorites below:
See? Fun, fresh, flirty, and feminine. I'm thinking about add the "Champagne Is My Spirit Animal" pouch to my collection next. Or maybe "Sex Coffee And Rock 'N' Roll"? Let me know what you think and help me pick my next pretty from Miss With-it!
