This week, I realized something about myself: I am a creature of habit and my creature comforts are off-the-shoulder styles, maxi dresses, and the color blue. Can you blame me? Especially when a dress is as pretty as this one from Shein. I am going to be changing it up the next few weeks, so get ready! Starting with my hair, because what even color is this? No one knows.
Back to this blue beauty, I love how flattering it is from someone with my body type (curvy af) and how much this sapphire shade POPS. Listen to me, if you have breasts and hips - CINCH. THE. WAIST. Do it, trust me. You will look like a literal Sophia Loren-like goddess with proportions from the heavens. This jewel tone in really pretty in person, but it photographs even better. Definitely something I would wear to a late summer wedding if one of my friend's ever forced me to come to their wedding despite knowing how I feel about them (weddings, not the actual person). I also (clearly) love the showstopper slit, because who isn't game for showing off their gams? The slit is cheeky, it's almost hidden when you're standing still. It's also not placed too high or cut too wide, so you're never in danger of revealing more than you intend. Which I literally do all the time, because I am equal parts tall and clumsy.
I originally wanted to wear heels with this dress because it is a sweeping style, but caged flats had to do in a pinch and I think they worked out just fine. Plus, my feet didn't hurt which was pretty cool. If you're dressing it up for an event, go with nude heels - it will make the silhouette of this dress even more graceful. You know, if you do ever end up at one of those outdoor most-dry-and-hot-part-of-summer weddings people seem to love. Then the slit can do double time as a vent too. I love versatility.
Summer Style Rules: Always wear sunnies, always wear maxis, always wear your cork wedges, and always sit down literally anywhere when your feet start to hurt from said cork wedges. Babes, those shoes kill. Cute as they are, and they are cute - I'm hobbling by like step 20. But, what is a maxi dress without a sky-high pair of wedges to go with it? Nothing. Also, I woke up in a very 90s Supermodel (Christy, Linda, Naomi, Cindy) mood and wanted to look as long and lean as possible in this dress. I mean - why eat right, work out daily, build and elongate your muscles and lines, and improve your general health when you can get the same effect from wearing heels?
This maxi dress is from Kanan&Willow and I MAY have worn it 4 times the week it arrived and I MAY be wearing it right this very moment. Do you know what my favorite thing it? Besides lobster rolls and champagne? It's when things are easy. Life is hard, man - we all deserve some easy breezy moments and that's what I love about this dress. It's EZ! The tie-dye is so pretty, the fit is so dreamy, and there are pockets!!!! This is not a drill - any dress with pockets earns a spot in my closet right now immediately. It's somehow now my go-to running errands dress AND going to a summer party dress. I'm doing both of those things today.
Here's the scoop on my sunnies: they're Karen Walker (4ever fave) from Shop Ditto. For $24 a month, you get an endless rotation of designer shades - try your first month for free on me using code BOHOSTYLE!
Happy 4th of July to all of my readers in the US! Hope you're all scrolling through Instagram by the pool instead of at the office today. Happy Monday to all of my international babes, too - only 4 more days 'til the weekend. I'm pretty much already doing the same countdown. And to my Canadian loves, Happy Belated Canada Day! This post is in honor of you, because I have found yet another thing from Montreal that I am just crazy in love with...much like poutine and the W.
So, I'm obsessed with 90s fashion (you: "Um, duh") and when I discovered Ziggit, I automatically knew I would use these fun little pins to fashion the choker I've been wearing all over Instagram as of late. I got six pieces so I could spell out "BOHO" and because I wanted to add some color to my DIY design with Zicons (ziggit emoticons). I went with their lotus and diamond designs, because what better signifies a Boho Socialite? The clip-on pins are so easier to use, even for someone with fumbling fingers like me. I'm still rocking the choker today, but I might try the pins on my bikini top since I'm headed poolside this afternoon. Or on a headband because my hair has also decided to revert back to it's 90s style ie huge and fully of waves and curls. Ziggit has a lot to play with, which I really appreciate. Down to designing your own pieces. I can't stand looking like anyone else, and Ziggit helps me hold on to my style identity with pieces that I feel like were made just for me and that I can wear however I want. There's no rules, just limitless self-expression. Spell it out however works for you!
I built this look around my Ziggit choker for my recent staycation in Malibu. Isn't Malibu just the best? I've had these fantastic authentic vintage Gamble sunnies from Hindsight Vintage (available at ASOS) that I've been waiting to use, and thought the round frames + the diy choker would compliment each other so perfectly. Then this Tularosa dress just called to me as soon as I spotted it, and I always wear my gold gladiators when I'm at the beach...helps me feel like I'm actually on vacation in Santorini or Crete and that vacation is actually a 3 month long residency where I drink ouzo and finally finish my book. A girl can dream. I love the white and blue in this dress (of course) and the lace crochet hem is such a nice finishing touch (literally). I'm really looking forward to wearing more Tularose from now on - the dress was SO well-made. I live for a fully lined outfit. Boho-inspired clothing can be a little flimsy, but this dress has a real quality to it - I'm definitely going to be rocking it all summer long.
