It's that time of year, you guys. Every other post on Instagram is about peonies and the floral prints are coming out for summer. Floral prints are like the pumpkin spice lattes of this season - super basic, but extremely delightful. I love fashion, I fashion for a living, but I don't believe fashion has to be serious. Sometimes, it can just be pretty and cheerful - and that's how wearing florals makes me feel. Seriously, how can you be in a bad mood when your outfit is covered in blossoming blooms? Especially splashed across a canvas of pink? I put on this little confection from Gozon and a. felt super happy and gorgeous b. immediately wanted to go to a garden party in Beverly Hills.
Here's a secret about why I love dresses with pockets so much - I never know what to do with my hands while I shoot, and also generally in life. I get a bad case of clawhands when I'm taking pictures, so having somewhere to stash them is a relief. I'm also a fan of the silhouette pockets create on maxi dresses when placed correctly. They give a little more of a rounded/feminine shape to a garment, so it doesn't look like a shapeless sack when worn. I'm all for billowing dresses, but I don't want to be swallowed whole by one. The same shape is achieved by an empire waist on top, so this dress has a lot of balance that makes it super flattering on most body types. It can help create or accentuate curves. I really love that this dress is comfortable enough to wear out for a breakfast with my girlfriends or to meetings, and yet sophisticated enough for a special occasion. I've literally never in my life said this before, but someone invite me to a wedding this summer - I have the perfect thing to wear!
I've had New York on the brain lately, and I think that's how this black dress slipped into my normally colorful closet. Although, when I lived in New York I never wore black either...even though its practically the uniform there. I was just being contrary, as usual. I also really base all of my style choices around the very important questions of "does this go with purple hair or nah?" and black goes with everything - which is another reason I kind of immediately fell in love with this dress from Gozon. Add the fact that it's a bit flow-y and my shoulders get to make a cameo and you know I'm a happy boho babe. Plus pockets! Now that I've gotten the taste for perfect casual black dresses, I may start incorporating even more black into my summer style - also mostly because I'll be mourning the loss of all my carefully done blown-outs as the temperature and humidity rises.
If you've been following my blog for a while, you already know I really dig Gozon because of the quality of their pieces, the flattering fit, and the variety. I actually have some really cute groundbreaking florals to show you later this week from their spring stash! I mean, black is cool and all and I'm glad I'm starting to embrace it more - but I'm a flower child at heart, always and forever.
As always, I'm plotting some travel and I'll definitely be bringing this dress along with me. The right straw hat and this dress can go from city chic to country-side charm in a second. I'm envisioning long strolls through ancient winding streets, with glimpses of glimmering blue water beyond - stay tuned!
