Those groovy gals at Lulus sent over this boho dress for me to style around with - aren't bell sleeves genius? Because it's 4:41 A.M. and I'm waiting on emails from London and Lisbon, I was just reminiscing about when I started this gig. Whenever people ask me how long I've been blogging I say, "Oh, like 5 years or so." because I am not great with keeping track of the passage of time - but I know it's for sure more than 1 year and less than 10. Seems like a good average to me. Except this year, it's true! 2019 marks 5 years of this cuckoo bananas ride from Paris to New York to New Orleans to L.A. and now, all over the world. Sometimes I think of rebranding - ditching The Boho Socialite monikor and going with something more personal, yet more encompassing of how my style/voice/brand/message/home/lifestyle has grown and changed since the mid-2010s. I just can't bring myself to do it though, because I still am a boho babe at heart.
I know typically only very annoying people say the were "born in the wrong decade", but seriously...I was born in the wrong decade. I have a 1960s body with a 1970s face, and that's what drew me to the bohemian style clothing of the hippie-era in the first place. I think I would have an actual claustrophobic episode in an 80s power suit and there's not a spaghetti strap in the world that can hold back my curves. No - give me flowing, floral, and free-spirited any day. Even though my style has evolved a lot in the last 5 years, I'm never going to be able to turn down a boho gem like this dress from Lulus. This is my sartorial home. Who could give up sleeves like these! I may have been born in the wrong decade (seriously - 80s fashion? Ick), but thankfully bold florals, navy blue, and dramatic sleeves never go out of style.
Thank you Lulus!
My loves at Lulus made my entire 2019 with some samples to style and it's only the 9th! This coat is the best thing in my closet currently, possibly the best thing in my life. I just love it so much. I love the creamy tan and black plaid, I love the length, I love the weight, I love my personal insistence on wearing it despite it being 70 degrees outside. I've barely been able to take it out, what with my wisdom teeth sidelining me for a cool month, but oh do I have grand plans for this coat! Trips to places with an actual winter like Sweden and Denmark (and probably Norway and Finland), Even just on the plane, I'll wrap myself up in it and watch The Favourite back to back as I cross the Atlantic - only unfurling myself for Biscoff cookies and ginger ale.
But what is the perfect coat without the perfect outfit to go with it? A sleek black turtleneck sweater, a suede skirt dotted with buttons in a lush shade of jade green, and a fur beret (très chic, non?) round out this "Just Landed in Europe" look. It's not lost on me how much living in Paris in my early 20s has influenced my style - for a classic hat to a bold red lip. That smokey pink hair is all L.A., though. Oh, and speaking of my beloved French - I'd be remiss to not mention Loulou, the pochette metis of my dreams. I hope you're not sick of seeing her yet, because I have to carry her one day for every dollar I spent to justify the cost. I'm already really looking forward to getting my next Louis Vuitton bag in my early 80s.
