This was going to be my last summer look before I transitioned into cozy knits and lace up suede boots for the fall, but guess where it's currently 91 degrees? That's right - my adopted hometown where I moved to get away from the intense heat of Louisiana. At least it's not humid? Small victories. So, expect a few more off-the-shoulder dresses and metallic sandals from me in October since this Indian Summer is trying to dash all of our pumpkin spice sprinkled dreams.
This very bell-sleeved boho confection is my version of pre-fall style. When it's time to transition to the next seasons, I don't add a jaunty scarf to my outfit or a knit hat. I just start wearing what I normally do, but in black. In this case, black flecked with rich autumn colors. Ok yes, a floral print is very spring BUT the orange, red, and pale purple in the intricate detailing is tres fall. I also really loved that the print reminded me of all those macrame outfits I would covet at vintage shops back in New York and Paris. Macrame is a hippie staple and not for the faint of heart. I love it though, I'm actually currently trying to macrame a wall tapestry for my house...I mean, when it's not too hot to do anything but lay still. Pray for me babes, that I don't melt and actually make it to next week so I can break out those over-the-knee boots and OD on hot coffee once again.
Doesn't this dress also kind of remind you of a stained glass window in an ancient cathedral? I swear I say something similar at some stately church in Montreal or Paris. Or maybe the swirling images inside of a kaleidoscope? I love how the colors almost come to life and dance around this dress. I always appreciate some kind of movement in clothing. Sometimes, the best way to wear black is as a canvas.
Although I wear blue all the time, red is my power color. 9 times out of 10, I'm wearing red lipstick (I am a firm believer that red lipstick looks amazing on EVERYONE), but I've been consciously trying to add more red to my closet lately - especially because I think it's such a great color for fall. Even fall in L.A., where you just wear boots and sweaters even though its 78 degrees and sunny outside.
When I came upon this red dress from VIPme, I was IN LOVE. This red dress with fluttering sleeves and a floral print was just so perfectly me with it's vintage-inspired A-Line design. Something I didn't realize about the dress until I wore it out was that the flowers shimmer in the most beautiful bright gold when the sunlight hits them...which is a good thing, since it's never not sunny in Los Angeles. I love how the dress glinted and gleamed as it fluttered prettily in the wind while I wore it, definitely the perfect dress for an autumn wedding or rooftop dinner party.
A review: The thing I absolutely loved about this dress is how flirty and feminine it is, while also being elegant enough to dress up for a more formal event. Can't you just imagine how spectacular it would look with a white belted coat and a class black pair of Louboutins? I also love that it's silk, silk just hugs and wraps the body in a way that other material doesn't.
The fit of the dress is really great, definitely runs true to size (a relief in a world gone mad with vanity sizing) and it is the perfect length for a midi skirt. I'm so tall, I encounter a lot of problems with dresses being an awkward length on me, but this one hit exactly where I was expecting it to when I fell in love with it.
I'm very much hoping for two things this fall: cool weather (so I can pair it with that white coat I have in mind) and for someone to invite me to an amazing rooftop party so I can bring this dress back out (hint hint).
