If you follow me on Instagram, you already heard my story about how the world's cutest older hippie gentleman, who was my cashier at Trader Joe's, told me that this was "a very groovy look". Best compliment ever because it takes one groovy person to know one. Sometimes, because I go around dressed like I rolled out of the 70s and am headed straight for Coachella every day of my life, I feel a little like I'm in costume. Especially in L.A., where the uniform is athleisure normcore. Is that I thing or did I just coin a new fashion movement? Anyway - it meant a lot that this guy, this kindred hippie spirit, got my look. Also, fashion compliments are the highest form of compliments in my book. Tell that person in line with you at the bank that you love their shoes or handbag or haircolor - it's literally the best.
So speaking of Coachella, I wish it was now because this is the perfect dress for the festival. There's a lot of times when I get a new dress and I think, "Do I have the willpower to save this for April?". The answer is always no. Every day is like the first day of school for me - I have to wear my new clothes immediately. I actually have a few goodies from Wild Blue Denim, but I wanted to start with this dress because I love the color! You know how my thing is when it's fall, I just wear the same clothes in fall colors? So I was really excited about this deep shade of maroon. I also love the shoulder cutout + bell sleeve in the same design. There's a lot of playfulness in this dress, even though it's relatively simple, because of those details. It doesn't need much else - I styled it was things that I'm personally obsessed with right now (chokers, midi rings, hats), but I've also been wearing this dress alone and love it just has much.
P.S. How cool is the Mondrian wall? I could think of no place more appropriate to make this groovy vibe complete.
